Ah, New Year’s–the night of the year when everyone wants to stand out but ends up blending in. Good for you if you’ve planned ahead and bought a sparkly minidress, but the rest of us aren’t as organized and need some inspiration. It’s a perfect night to pull out that crazy item you bought six months ago and have been too scared to wear since (last year we wore velvet shorts and gold tights, respectively). On the other hand, a well put-together outfit built around one original idea will make you stand out in the sea of black and sequins.
Dress AND a skirt? Dress and a skirt
Layer a voluminous skirt under a more fitted dress for a look no one else at the party thought of. Toss your hair back and add lipstick. Maybe someone will think you actually put effort in.
One colour wonder
Why not be the christmas angel of new year? There’s no reason why all white, with a statement necklace and heeled boots, isn’t festive enough for new years. Alternatively, pick your favourite colour and dress head to ankle in that colour!
Black and white
This combo is always classic, but on New Year’s Eve it looks fresh and creative. Grab all your white tops and black skirts out of your closet and find an outfit you feel great in. One huge piece of jewellery is all you need to make it festive.
Fairy lights
If there is any occasion to wear lights in ones hair, it’s any occasion (actually) but this idea is especially brilliant on NYE! Find some battery-powered lights, twist them in your hair and flick a switch. Bam! You’re a new year’s fairy, or Princess Leia on drugs.
HAPPY NEW YEAR YOU GORGEOUS HUMANS, and may your 2015 be full of love and smiles!
